Inga Harasimowicz AI 1

Artificial Intelligence vs Da Vinci's Hand

Inga Harasimowicz's painting "AI 1" mixed technique, canvas 90cm x 75cm, exhibition at the Wspólna Gallery in Bydgoszcz, dedicated to Artificial Intelligence.

Surrounded by the chimeras and imps of AI creations, we search for the source. That source is the Renaissance. Leonardo, entangled in his own paintings, entangled in his own inventions, discoverer of techniques and creator of technology. This is a good reference point for the emergence of Al and the interpretation of this phenomenon today.

We seek knowledge and we seek truth, already accustomed to technical conveniences, as Al becomes our third hand. However, until Al is immersed in the Cultural Model for a given natural language, the answers it provides will be riddled with many errors and hallucinations-chimeras and imps of AI. Al language models are based on various data sources, often containing a false image of reality. The classical face of a Renaissance woman on the left is intertwined with her entanglement on the right. The woman's head is somewhat observing itself. The choice of colors aids in the serene contemplation of the painting with a blue-green background and golden browns. The technical solutions between the gazes evoke Leonardo's drawings, technicalities from the distant past--no fiber optics or other fireworks of modern technology here; we see tangled hair and metaphorical ears resembling violin handles.

The woman's torso is classical, turned to the right, suggesting that the face on the right is the proper one, more sensitive and looking uncertain. The face on the left is frozen in a gaze, telling us viewers that "she knows," that she has possessed the truth we seek today. The figure of the woman is surrounded by figures of chaos on a circle, recognizable when interacting directly with the painting, seeing those connections and bridges firsthand.

I recommend that the owner of a technology company or law firm purchase the original painting and hang it on the wall in the new technologies department. Let Leonardo's dilemmas be encountered daily by his employees inspiring them and prompting the question of whether we are better than him today, whether we know more. For art market observers, my advice: the current price of the painting may be in five figures, but in a few years, it will be six figures, due to its artistic value and capturing the dilemmas of Al here and now.
